Seattle chapter event: Don’t Sign That Contract — Until You Hear This

As most of us know, publishing contracts contain about as many pitfalls as paragraphs — option clauses, deep-discount riders, agreement to hold publishers harmless, reserves against returns, and, most recently, morals clauses. All these legal devices can cost you money, peace of mind, or both. What, if anything, can you do to protect yourself?

Come hear our own executive director, Mary Rasenberger, and staff legal counsel Umair Kazi, explain what you should ask for to nullify these clauses or lessen their load. Many of you have seen the guild’s Model Contract, now being revised; Mary and Umair will bring us up to date.

Their presentation will last about forty minutes, following which they’ll answer questions. Our usual social hour will take place afterward. Please RSVP via the link below or by emailing seattlechapter@authorsguild.org.
