Judith Appelbaum, author of How to Get Happily Published, is managing director of Sensible Solutions, Inc., which specializes in target marketing for writers and publishers.
She has analyzed and influenced book publishing as a columnist and reviewer for The New York Times Book Review, as the managing editor of Publishers Weekly and as the editor of the Independent (published by IBPA, the Independent Book Publishers Association), as well as through How to Get Happily Published, which has sold more than 500,000 copies.
Winner of the Publishers Marketing Association Lifetime Achievement Award and the Book Industry Study Group Lifetime Service Award, Judith Appelbaum began her career in publishing at Harper’s Magazine and she has given programs about publishing at NYU, CUNY, UCLA and the Publishing Institute at the University of Denver.
Her articles have been published in The New York Times, Publishers Weekly, Harper's, The Writer, the Authors Guild Bulletin, Media Studies Journal, Poets & Writers magazine and other periodicals as well as online. And she has spoken at many gatherings of publishers and writers and appeared on dozens of radio and TV shows to talk about publishing, getting published and self-publishing.
