I've been an organic gardener and small-scale farmer for more than 20 years, as well as a garden writer, columnist, blogger and now the author of Organic Hobby Farming: A Practical Guide to Earth-Friendly Farming in any Space.
I'm also a longtime newsroom manager, online journalist and multi-media producer, currently working as Managing Editor for New Media at SouthCoast Media Group in New Bedford, Mass.
Over the years, I've turned my backyard garden into an efficient food factory. The operation became so efficient that for five years I ran a commercial farm, selling fresh organically grown vegetables and fruit to neighbors, co-workers and friends who signed up for a community supported agriculture (CSA) program.
I used my successful backyard business model to write my book, hoping to inspire and empower others. Take control of your food supply, eat healthier, earn a side income and help save the planet - one acre at a time.
My respect for farmers has turned me into a dedicated advocate for local growers. I am now a board member for the Southeastern Massachusetts Agricultural Partnership, a group that educates and advocates for local farmers.
I now lecture and lead workshops on myriad aspects of small-scale organic gardening and backyard farming.
Garden clubs, libraries, schools and others can contact me by email to set up educational talks, demonstrations, PowerPoint presentations and workshops on any topic related to gardening, organic growing and small-scale, backyard farming. Fees are negotiable.
