About

Patricia Raybon is an award-winning Colorado author, essayist, and novelist who writes top-rated books at the daring intersection of faith and race. Her first fiction – an historical detective series set in Colorado’s 1920s Klan era – was launched with "All That Is Secret: An Annalee Spain Mystery," selected as a Parade Magazine Fall 2021 "Mysteries We Love" and picked by NBA All Star and MVP Stephen Curry as the March 2022 choice for his Literati Book Club.

The second installment in the series, "Double the Lies," is set to be released Feb. 7, 2023, from her publisher, Tyndale House.

A former journalism faculty member at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Patricia’s notable nonfiction books include two memoirs: "My First White Friend: Confessions on Race, Love, and Forgiveness," winner of a Christopher Award, and "I Told the Mountain to Move: Learning to Pray So Things Change," a 2006 Book of the Year Finalist in Christianity Today Magazine’s annual book competition. She's also author of a One Year® devotional entitled God’s Great Blessings and an interfaith memoir with her daughter Alana Raybon entitled "Undivided: A Muslim Daughter, Her Christian Mother, Their Path to Peace."

Patricia Raybon’s personal essays on family and faith have been published in The New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, USA Today, Country Living Magazine, Chicago Tribune, The Denver Post, Guideposts, In Touch Magazine, and aired on National Public Radio. She’s also a regular contributor to the global ministry, Our Daily Bread.

A journalist by training, Patricia earned a B.A. in journalism from Ohio State University and an M.A. in journalism from the University of Colorado at Boulder. A former editor of The Denver Post’s Sunday Contemporary Magazine, and a longtime feature writer at the Rocky Mountain News, Patricia taught journalism at the University of Colorado at Boulder for 15 years.

Now a full-time author, Patricia is also mom to two grown daughters, a totally smitten “Grammy” to five grandchildren, mother-in-law to one “son,” and the wife of 46 years to her husband Dan. She and Dan make their home in Colorado where she grew up.

In all of this, Patricia seeks to live in the spirit of a favorite Scripture: “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31 KJV)
