Joan E. Drescher
Joan Drescher is the author/illustrator of more than 30 books for children and adults. Using art and writing to connect body, mind and spirit, she has inspired the lives of children, parents and caregivers for decades.
Through the universal language of images, Joan offers us a tool to unlock and help people deal with the wide range of often difficult, but always honest, feelings that children experience. Joan has a deep commitment to and respect for children and the importance of honoring each child's unique voice and spirit.
Her books have been published by Houghton Mifflin Little Brown, E.P. Dutton, Dial, Times Warner, Jessica Kingsley, Viking, Lesley University, Walker & Co, and others.
A Journey in The Moon Balloon, When Images Speak Louder Than Words," was published in 2015 by Jessica Kingsley (London and Philadelphia). It honors the voices of children with whom she worked as Artist inResidence at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children, Boston, for thirteen years.
Joan is a certified Spiritual Director from the Claritas Institute andDirector of The Moon Balloon Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children and families communicate. She is a fellow of the Institute for Mind, Body andSpirit at Lesley University, Cambridge MA; a member of the Authors Guild; and her art is represented in the Mazza Museum collection. A Gallery Artist at the South Shore Art Center in Cohasset MA, she writes and creates in her studio in Hingham MA.
"For me," she says, "creating art invokes magic, within the creator and those who receive it. The synergy between words and art can make the invisible visible for those who interact with it."
