Dr. Gary Rose
Gary Rose, Ph.D, is a retired police sergeant who later entered a career as an at-risk teacher of juvenile delinquents incarcerated in our local juvenile detention facility. Prior to retirement from teaching, he was tasked with creating a template for a military style boot-camp academy for the most challenging students, whose success depended on meeting the challenges of the academy or face further incarceration.
After completing his doctoral dissertation in Social Psychology, he taught in the college/university arena before winding down his teaching career by instructing inmates in the Placer County jails in how to pass their GED exams. His previous publication is a printed version of his dissertation listed on Amazon.com (Towards the Integration of Police Psychology Techniques to Combat Juvenile Delinquency in K-12 Classroom), in which he discusses the lack of training received by new teachers when confronted with juvenile delinquency in their classrooms; and how retired law enforcement and former military personnel could act as mentors for these struggling educators.
