Information presented in this study includes: definition of gangs, prior research on gangs, history of prison gangs, joining and leaving a gang, proliferation of prison gangs, street gangs, and an extensive summary of descriptive findings on member characteristics of criminal prison gangs. Data were collected from 159 validated survey respondents who lived at the Frank Lee Alabama Work Release Institution in Elmore County, AL.
