About
I’ve published four books, including two novels and a psychoanalytic study of Marcel Proust. The novels are The Ramadan Drummer (Pandamoon, 2017) and The Third Man (Golden Antelope, 2022). I’ve also written screenplays and made short films.
I graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Hamilton College; earned a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley; and taught literature, creative writing, and composition at a university and a community college in California.
My parents left Vienna in 1938 after Austria's absorption by Nazi Germany. I grew up on the East Coast but have spent my entire adult life on the West Coast. With two daughters and three grandkids, I currently live with my wife in Portland, Oregon, where I dodge raindrops, write novels, and exercise my social conscience.
