I am an 81 year-old retired professor of family medicine living in Seattle WA. I was born in Slovakia and grew up in the UK. During my medical life of teaching and research I wrote a slew of medical articles, book chapters and essays ... and a few short stories about country practice in the UK. Since 2000 I have been writing fiction!!!! The Kohut Trilogy, three novels based on my family's escape from Nazi-occupied Prague in 1939. Two have been published. The Dragontail Buttonhole and Cafe Budapest to good reviews. The third novel, Pavel's War, will be out in June 2019. These are not Holocaust or battle action stories but follow a refugee family as they confront danger, uncertainty and a slew of good, sneaky and bad characters on their odyssey through Europe to London, UK. My writing illustrates how war and separation affect family ties, when individual needs often outweigh the strength of family bonds.
