John E Batchelor
John Batchelor has been writing the restaurant review column for The Greensboro News and Record for over 30 years. He also reviewed restaurants for The Winston-Salem Journal for three years. He writes occasional dining and travel articles for Focus on the Coast and Blue Ridge Country as well as other magazines. His newest book, Chefs of the Mountains: Restaurants and Recipes from Western North Carolina, was published in October 2012 by John F. Blair, Publishers, in Winston-Salem. Blair published Chefs of the Coast: Restaurants and Recipes from the North Carolina Coast in June 2015.
In his “real job,” he was an educator in North Carolina for over 30 years, a former Guilford County teacher and a retired school system superintendent. He worked with the Success For All Foundation and the Center for Data Driven Reform in Education at Johns Hopkins University after retiring from the State, re-retiring in 2009. He was awarded a doctorate from N.C. State, where he held the Hodnett doctoral fellowship. He has written several other books, all in the field of history, as well as articles addressing personnel management and school system governance.
