Throughout the Navigator’s career he has been riding harrowing corporate roller coasters, cutting his teeth, busting his chops, falling on swords, turning cheeks, wrestling, cajoling, advocating, designing, planning, and implementing. The Clever Corporate Navigator™ site invites you to learn from the Navigator’s mistakes and triumphs that have been culled from his past senior roles within Fortune 500 corporations and mid-size companies.
The Navigator served as the Director of Global Talent Management at American International Group, Inc (AIG) during the government bailout and the resulting global restructuring that occurred there from 2008 – 2011. In that role, he helped 6,000 managers and their teams navigate through profound change in an unprecedented historical narrative. Other influential roles within Fortune 500 companies included Manager of Curriculum Development at Canon USA and the Director of Enterprise Performance & Integration at TIAA-CREF. The Navigator also served as the Head of Global Talent Management at AXIS Capital where he supported leaders and employees in their adjustment to the implications of mergers, acquisitions and restructuring. He is the past-president of the NYC chapter of the Association for Talent Development (ATD).
The Navigator shares his rich cache of coping and thriving strategies through his writing and coaching practice supporting those in mid-career who feel that they are alone in their struggles. He wants you to know that you are not alone because it is the rare circumstance that has no precedent. You are never so misplaced that you cannot find your rightful place.
Having said the above, the Navigator does not allow pity parties of any kind. If you want to discover strengths that you never knew you had, get out of your comfort zone and don’t whine about it.
About the Scenarios:
The stories shared on this site are composites of actual events that were chosen for their universality. Not only has the Navigator observed them, but hundreds of others in the Navigator’s network in all kinds of organizations have said “that happened in my place too”. The stories are archetypal in nature. The bad boss, the contradictory directives, the incessant turnover, all are familiar because they happen everywhere.
The Navigator wishes to emphasize that names and identifying details have been changed to protect the privacy of individuals. Also, be advised that villains and heroes in organizations span across all demographics. There is no intent to imply through the illustrations that a behavior is typical of the demographic to which an individual belongs regardless of age, gender, race, color, creed, or national origin.
