About

Christy Mihaly writes for young readers. Her picture books include "Free for You and Me: What Our First Amendment Means," an introduction to our First Amendment freedoms; and "Hey, Hey, Hay! (A Tale of Bales and the Machines That Make Them) — a rhyming story that features a farm girl and her mother making hay. She has also published a YA science nonfiction work, "Diet for a Changing Climate: Food for Thought," co-written with Sue Heavenrich, and more than 20 nonfiction works for the educational market.

Christy writes for young readers because she believes that our best hope for the future is raising kids who love to learn. She also writes articles, stories, and poetry. Her 2015 ASK magazine article about Gregor Mendel, “The Probability of Purple Peas,” received a letter of commendation in the SCBWI Magazine Merit Awards competition.

A founding member of GROG, the group blog for writers and readers of children’s literature, Christy blogs about writing and books. She has degrees from Dartmouth College and the University of California, Berkeley. She loves taking her dog for walks in the woods and playing the cello (though not simultaneously). After stints residing in six other states, and Spain, she has settled happily with her family in rural Vermont where she writes under the careful supervision of her dog and cat.

Christy is represented by Erzsi Deak of Hen&ink Literary Studio.
