JOHN J HEALEY
I was born and raised in New York City. At age 19 I traveled to Spain and lived in the Alpujarras for many years, reading and writing, and then studied medicine in Granada after which I began a 12-year career in the motion picture business. In 1998 I left feature film production to direct the documentary: 'Federico García Lorca' and in 2010 'The Practice of the Wild.' My first novel 'Emily & Herman' was published in 2013, 'The Samurai of Seville,' in 2016 in Spain, and in 2017 in the USA, Germany and Holland. A sequel, 'The Samurai's Daughter,' will be published this July. I have recently completed two new novels, 'April in Paris' and 'Arrows of Desire.' A double concerto for flamenco guitar, shamisen and chorus based on ‘The Samurai of Seville’ has been commissioned by the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville and will premier in 2020 in Spain and Japan, and an eight episode series for international television based on the first Samurai novel is in the works.
