With a genuine appreciation for what authors do, I'm attracted to writing with charisma. I'm looking for new book projects for adults, teens and children in my areas of interest; please see WaverlyPlaceLiterary.com for query guidelines.
When I find books I like, I read them more than once: the four Mary Poppins books, the Little House series, coming-of-age novels Mermaids and Anywhere But Here, Eudora Welty's and John Cheever's short stories, classic novels of Sinclair Lewis and Dreiser, the novellas with eccentric heroines by Muriel Spark, Herriot's All Creatures Great & Small, New York novels like Netherland and Great Gatsby and narrative nonfiction Around Washington Square and Tender at the Bone. Other favorites are posted on my Goodreads page, (https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/15986800-debbie-carter).
Prior to starting my literary agency in 1998, I trained with an AAR agent and worked in the music business in A&R and artist management. I have a BA in English and music with a minor in journalism from College of Arts and Sciences, NYU.
