About

My biography of the Italian physicist Enrico Fermi, "The Last Man Who Knew Everything: The Life and Times of Enrico Fermi, Father of the Nuclear Age" was published in December 2017 by Basic Books. I have published previously with the Brookings Institution on a range of foreign policy and defense policy issues. I have also been a diplomat, an investment banker, and an executive search professional focusing on the financial services industry. I have a PhD from MIT (1980) and a BA from Stanford (1976), both in political science. I live in New York City with my wife of 14 years, Susan.
