Her most recent book is under consideration by the University of Alabama Press for release in 2016 and chronicles the history of a grassroots environmental movement that took root in the Southeast during the late 1960s. She is currently co-writing with Medal of Honor recipient Bennie Adkins the story of the Battle A Shau, a Vietnam War battle that was equal parts tragedy and bravery.

A native of Alabama, Katie holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Auburn University, where she also served for more than 25 years as an editor and directed the University’s agricultural communications and marketing division.
